"A coming of age return by the San Franciscan singer-songwriter. Four Stars"
"[7th Ray] a gorgeous mid-tempo track that sounds a bit like what Beach House come up with if they tried to write roots rock."
“pure, unblemished voice, even the sad songs are comforting…”
Superdrone are a new psyche-shoegaze duo with their feet firmly under the table of the LA indie scene and with members of The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Verve and cult 90’s acts, Sundial and Loop listed among their admirers. Their debut album, One, was born out of their first two jam sessions together with the bare bones of the songs written on the spot and recorded into a smart-phone.
Deciding they had hit on something special, Ed (bass/vocals) and Tien (guitars) set about recording the album using those initial, impulsive audio tracks in order to preserve the soul and energy of their sound and create a furiously charged ten track album that has been described as “stadium-gaze”.
With Ed’s commercial sensibility and Tien’s Drone/Shoegaze guitar style, Superdrone have managed to create an album full of hooks and a tapestry of spaced out sounds that range from backwards 1960’s mellotrons to synth tones that wouldn’t be out of place on a Skrillex single. Being heavily infl uenced by acts like My Bloody Valentine, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and albums like The Pink Floyd’s Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Spiritualized’s Ladies and Gentlemen, Superdrone have sculpted a new, evolved psyche-rock sound that is like so many other great records you’ve heard but at the same time has a soundscape of its own. So it’s of no surprise than the highly influential and respected Louder Than
War magazine has featured them in their December edition as... “Ones to watch in 2017”.
